Barrier is an iPhone beauty and skincare app that helps you find products suited to you. Scanning or searching a product shows its 0–100 Product Score, a risk rating for each ingredient, and how it matches your saved goals and sensitivities. You can also track your skincare routine, discover similar products, and ask Barrier Expert questions using your saved context.
Yes. Barrier's beauty catalog includes skincare, makeup for the complexion, cheeks, lips and eyes, sun care, body care, hair care, fragrance, nail products, and beauty tools. Barrier tracks each product's exact shade, size or finish as a separate variant, including individual foundation shades and travel sizes.
Barrier assigns each scored product a 0–100 Product Score based on its formula. Ingredients with published evidence of concern reduce that score. The ratings are Excellent at 90 or above, Great at 80–89, Good at 65–79, Not great at 40–64, and Bad below 40.
Barrier gives every ingredient in a product's formula one of five labels: No risk identified, Low risk, Moderate risk, Hazardous, or Not rated. An ingredient is Not rated when Barrier does not yet have a published assessment for it. Barrier treats it as unknown instead of assuming it is safe.
Barrier checks a product against your saved skin type, sensitivity, goals, ingredients to avoid, and must-haves such as fragrance-free or vegan, along with your existing routine. Barrier Expert explains the personal fit in clear language. This assessment is separate from the Product Score, so even a highly rated formula may be flagged as a poor match for you.
Yes. Barrier compares ingredient lists to find dupes and alternatives within the same product type. Each alternative has an ingredient match percentage showing how many of the original product's ingredients it contains. Filter the results by brand or verified vegan, cruelty-free or fragrance-free claims, or compare any two products side by side.
Barrier Expert is an AI beauty assistant for questions about products and routines. It uses your saved profile, routine, recent check-ins, shelf and watchlist to inform its answers, and can search the catalog, retrieve exact product ingredient lists, and compare two products. When it uses public web research, it includes the sources. You control which of your data it can access, with reaction history and past photos turned off by default.
Barrier tracks your routine streak and seven-day consistency as you check off your saved morning, night and extra steps. Days without a log are excluded, not treated as missed steps. A separate Routine Score measures how your products align with your selected goals and ingredient preferences. Neither your consistency nor your Routine Score changes based on how your skin felt that day.
Barrier's watchlist checks the current price and availability of the exact product variant you save, including its shade, size or finish. It checks Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Target and Walmart, as well as other retailers discovered through shopping search. Each listing is matched to your saved variant, rather than selected simply because the product name is similar.
Yes. Everything you save in Barrier stays private, and adding photos is optional. Your phone stores photos with iOS file protection, while a private copy syncs to your account for restoration on devices where you are signed in. Barrier does not sell personal information or display ads. You can delete your Barrier data at any time in Settings.
